WHAT IS THE GLOBAL COFFEE SCHOOL?
Founded by Allegra Events in 2020, The Global Coffee School provides world class online Coffee, Home Barista and ‘Beyond Coffee’ education, learning, training and experiences for everyone, designed to ignite passions and inspire progress and development.
Launched in early 2021 with The Coffee & Home Barista Masterclass Series, the GCS offers engaging, educational and entertaining ‘At Home’ courses in partnership with experts and learning institutions across the globe, covering a range of lifestyle and hospitality fields, from coffee to mixology, cookery, wine and chocolate.
WHAT IS THE HOME BARISTA MASTERCLASS SERIES?
The Global Coffee School’s programme launched with The Coffee & Home Barista Masterclass Series - cutting-edge Foundation and Advanced courses in the complete ‘at home’ mastery of coffee and barista skills, led by internationally renowned experts.
The Series began an 8-week Foundation Course -
Home Coffee Training: The Fundamentals
, followed by a range of 4-week Advanced Progression Courses later in the year, deep-diving into core-skill focus areas covering everything from Sensory to Espresso & Latte Art, Drink Design & Mixology to Vegan Coffee Craft.
WHAT IS THE HOME COFFEE TRAINING: THE FUNDAMENTALS (FOUNDATION COURSE)?
The Global Coffee School’s Foundation Course, Home Coffee Training: The Fundamentals is an 8-week cutting-edge course in the comprehensive ‘at home’ mastery of coffee and barista skills, led by world-renowned experts.
The Foundation Course is designed to provide you with all the foundation knowledge and elementary skills you need to make great coffee at home, like a pro.
The Foundation Course Syllabus will include: • Coffee Theory • Getting Started • How to Grind • Sensory Education • Rations & Recipes • How to Cup and Taste Coffee • An Introduction to Filter Coffee • Brewing Techniques • Pro-Pour-Over • Espresso 101 • Espresso Drinks & Latte Art – Dairy • Espresso Drinks & Latte Art – Plant-Based • An Introduction to Coffee Cocktails, Mocktails & Drink Design
The Course comprises of eight video lessons (to be taken weekly). Course members will also be given weekly homework tasks to be completed before the next class is taken and fun online quizzes to be completed as you progress through the course, all accessed via your GCS online education portal.
WHEN WILL THE FOUNDATION COURSE TAKE PLACE?
Members may begin the course at any time from the launch date.
The course will comprise of eight classes (each accompanied by associated practical homework tasks and a short theory quiz) designed to be completed weekly from the date you commence the course.
*please note, should the course start date be delayed for any reason, including disruption caused by the Covid-19 Pandemic, course members will be notified at the soonest opportunity.
WHO IS THE FOUNDATION COURSE FOR?
The Foundation Course is for home coffee enthusiasts at all levels. Ideal course members will be coffee curious, eager to learn the basics, gain foundation knowledge and acquire elementary skills to make great coffee at home, like a pro.
HOW DO I BOOK A COURSE?
You can book a place on the Global Coffee School’s Home Barista Foundation Course – Home Coffee Training: The Fundamentals
HOW DO I ACCESS AND TAKE PART IN MY COURSE/S?
Members will receive a login to their personal GCS Online Education Portal once they have booked a course, via which you can access and stream video lessons on-demand online anytime, or download and watch offline, from desktop, phone, or other devices.
HOW MUCH TIME DO I NEED TO COMMIT TO COMPLETE THE FOUNDATION COURSE?
Course members may access classes and complete the course anytime, via their personal GCS Online Education Portal. The duration of each of the eight Foundation Course video classes will range from 20 – 30 minutes. The practical homework tasks and online theory quizzes may be completed/taken in your own time between classes.
The course may be taken at your own convenience, therefore when you take it and the time it takes is up to you, however we recommend you take one class (and complete one practical homework task and online theory quizzes) per week to get the most out of it.
You will also have continued on-demand access to each class via the portal, meaning that you can go back and re-visit any particular tutorials or focus sessions at any time as you learn, practise and progress on your home coffee journey.
CAN I TAKE THE COURSE ALL IN ONE GO?
The Foundation Course comprises of eight classes designed to be completed weekly from the date you commence the course.
You may complete the course as you wish or over a shorter timeframe, however we recommend you take one class per week over an 8-week period in order to gain the most from it.
You will also have continued on-demand access to each class via the GCS Online Education Portal, meaning that you can go back and re-visit any particular tutorials or focus sessions at any time as you learn, practise and progress on your home coffee journey.
CAN I TAKE THE COURSES WITH OTHERS/A FRIEND?
Yes! We would be delighted for you to form your own Global Coffee School community… however, please note all members of your group should book their own place on a course to obtain a personal GCS Online Education Portal login, access to the toolkit and all course resources and to gain their own certificate on completion.

WHAT KIT/EQUIPMENT DO I NEED TO HAVE AT HOME TO COMPLETE THE COURSE?
The Home Barista Foundation course will cover a broad range of coffee theory and practical coffee making tutorials (see above).
The home coffee kit (equipment and ingredients) that will be used or demonstrated each week will be listed on the GCS Online Education Portal, shared at the beginning of the class and at the end of the video lesson before so that you can prepare your home coffee set-up accordingly.
You do not need to own a specific home espresso machine to take part in the course – home espresso machine training will be included within the 8-class syllabus, however other/hand-held/stove top espresso drink making method options and hacks will also be covered and alternative equipment options will always be given.
Not having a particular kit item does not preclude you from taking part – you’ll still learn something and pick-up game-changing tricks from every class!
WILL I GET A CERTIFICATE AT THE END?
You will gain a certificate on completion of each course, however please note The Home Coffee & Barista Masterclass Series offers home coffee education and barista training, not professional certification.
